Built on Experience Since 1958

Central Coating Company was founded by John P. Nolan, who began his career working on large-scale industrial coating projects across the United States.

In 1967, the company relocated to California and installed its first spray polyurethane foam (SPF) roofing system. Over time, Central Coating became a trusted partner for major commercial and industrial clients, including projects throughout Napa Valley, Silicon Valley, and the Central Valley.


A major contract in the wine industry led to the company establishing its headquarters in Madera, with expansion into San Jose to support the growing Bay Area market.

Second-Generation Leadership

Luke Nolan joined Central Coating Company in 2004 and became President in 2009, continuing the company’s long-standing commitment to quality, performance, and customer relationships.


As of 2026, Central Coating Company crews have installed over 70,000,000 square feet of SPF Roofing and insulated more than 2,500 cold storage tanks, cold rooms, and freezer facilities with sprayed polyurethane foam and elastomeric coatings.


Central Coating Company is an award-winning company with 13 SPFA Industry Excellence Awards across various categories. The company is a member of SPFA and the National Roofing Contractors Association (NRCA).


Today, the company remains focused on delivering roofing systems that are built to last, not just installed and forgotten.
